I took a typing course in school and it has served me well for many years. I’ve secured jobs because of the skill I acquired and I made the transition to keyboarding easier than many, because I was already familiar with the QWERTY board. Just as I teach my children to write manuscript, progressing to cursive, I also teach them typing/keyboarding skills.
I’ve just discovered Keyboarding for the Christian School.
Keyboarding for the Christian School is written for grades 6 – 12. It contains clear directions and manageable assignments. In 43 lessons, author, Leanne Beitel has created a complete typing curriculum. She teaches the Home Keys; Alphabetic, Numbers and Symbol Keys, How to Center and Set Margins, How to format a Personal-Business Letter and Business Letters; How to create a Cover Page, Works Cited and Bibliography, just as I learned, but Keyboarding for the Christian School uses Bible references for the instruction and practice.
I have often used Scripture copy work for manuscript and cursive writing practice; so I have found Christian Keyboarding to be an ideal fit for us. “Filling Your Student’s Mind with God’s Word Using Typing Skills,” is Leanne’s tag line and I think it’s perfect! My child typed and centered, horizontally and vertically, 4 Psalms, as assigned in this typing course. This seems like a balance in education to me, and I appreciate the availability of this curriculum.
Keyboarding for the Christian School , purchased as an e-book, is $15.95. Also available is, Elementary – basic keyboarding, for K – 5th grades, at just $12.95.
